The Avelo System™
Hydrotank + Jetpack

The Avelo System™ is an integrated, human-centered diving system designed around stable buoyancy, streamlined movement, diver awareness, and proper training.

What Makes Avelo Different?

One system, designed around the diver.

The Avelo System integrates buoyancy, movement, and diver control into a single system.

The result is a streamlined setup designed to reduce task loading and help the diver feel more stable, aware, and natural underwater.

This page explains the equipment. To actually use Avelo, divers must complete the appropriate Avelo training.

The Two Main Components

Meet the Hydrotank and Jetpack.

The Avelo System is built around two primary pieces: the Hydrotank, which manages buoyancy using water, and the Jetpack, which powers and carries the system.

Avelo Hydrotank
Buoyancy Core

Hydrotank

The Hydrotank is the core of The Avelo System. Breathing gas is stored inside a bladder, and water is added to or removed from the Hydrotank to establish and adjust buoyancy.

  • Add water: the diver becomes heavier.
  • Purge water: the diver becomes lighter.
  • Water-based buoyancy: helps create stability across depth changes.

Power + Harness

Jetpack

The Jetpack powers the Hydrotank and functions as the backplate and harness. The diver manually controls buoyancy through the Jetpack.

  • Backplate and harness: secures the system to the diver.
  • Battery-powered pump: supports water movement into the Hydrotank.
  • Manual control: the diver selects and initiates each adjustment.

How Water-Based Buoyancy Works

Instead of managing air in a jacket or wing, Avelo manages water in the Hydrotank.

The diver remains in control. The Avelo System does not automate buoyancy; it gives the diver a different way to establish and adjust it.

Water is added

When water is added to the Hydrotank, the diver becomes heavier. This helps the diver establish the desired buoyancy state.

Water is purged

When water is purged from the Hydrotank, the diver becomes lighter. The adjustment is controlled manually by the diver.

Stability improves

Because water does not compress and expand the way air does, the system is designed to help buoyancy remain more stable as depth changes.

Task loading can drop

With fewer constant buoyancy corrections, divers can give more attention to awareness, trim, movement, their buddy, and the dive itself.

Avelo divers do not use a standard jacket or wing BCD with The Avelo System. Divers may still use weight depending on exposure protection, body composition, and dive conditions.

Inside the Hydrotank

Breathing gas inside. Water control outside.

The Hydrotank is different from a conventional scuba cylinder because breathing gas is stored inside a bladder. Water moves in and out around that bladder to adjust the diver’s buoyancy.

This is the heart of why Avelo feels different. Instead of constantly adding and venting air from a conventional buoyancy setup, the diver is managing water inside the Hydrotank.

Why It Feels Different

The system is designed to fade into the background.

Avelo is built around the diver’s body, movement, and awareness so the dive can feel more natural and less equipment-heavy.

Stable buoyancy

Water-based buoyancy helps reduce the constant adjustments many divers expect from conventional setups.

Streamlined movement

The system is designed to sit close to the body and reduce drag through the water.

Manual control

The diver remains in command and controls each buoyancy adjustment.

More awareness

With less constant equipment management, divers can stay more connected to the dive experience.

Questions are welcome.

Avelo is new to many divers, and the best first step is understanding what it is, what it changes, and what training is required before using it.

We can walk you through the basics, show you the equipment, explain the training pathway, and help you decide whether Avelo is a good fit for your diving goals.

Common Questions

Quick answers about The Avelo System.

Do I need training?

Yes. Divers should not use Avelo equipment without completing proper Avelo training.

Can I dive Nitrox?

Yes. The Avelo System is compatible with Nitrox blend up to 40% oxygen.

Do I need a new regulator?

The Avelo System works with all regulators having a standard 300 bar DIN connection.

Does Avelo replace a standard BCD?

The Avelo System is a buoyancy control device. Divers using The Avelo System do not use a standard jacket or wing BCD with it.

Do Avelo divers use weight?

Weight needs vary. Some divers may still use weight depending on exposure suit, body composition, and dive conditions.

How do I try it?

Contact Dive & Glide Scuba. We will explain the training requirement and help you choose the right next step.
