JULY 2026 FEATURE STORY

Avelo Is Here. Let’s Dive Into It.

Dive & Glide Scuba chose to bring Avelo™ to Michigan because it offers divers a genuinely different approach to buoyancy, movement, and training—while keeping the diver fully in control.

Dive & Glide Scuba is proud to be Michigan's first Avelo Dive Center, with training for both brand-new and already-certified divers beginning in August 2026.

Why Avelo?

More Than a New Piece of Equipment

The Story Behind the Decision

Why We Chose to Bring Avelo to Michigan

At Dive & Glide Scuba, we have spent nearly three decades helping people learn to dive, continue their education, find the right equipment, and become more comfortable underwater. We do not add something new simply because it is new. We look for training and equipment that can offer divers a meaningful experience and a clear reason to learn.

Avelo caught our attention because it approaches one of the most important parts of scuba—buoyancy—in a very different way. The Avelo System uses water inside the Hydrotank to establish and adjust buoyancy. The diver remains in control, but the system is designed to stay stable as depth changes.

That can mean fewer constant buoyancy corrections and more attention available for trim, movement, awareness, a dive buddy, and the dive itself. For us, the most exciting part is not simply that the equipment looks different. It is the possibility of helping divers feel more settled and connected underwater through proper Avelo training.

We also saw an opportunity to give new divers another starting point. Beginning in August, someone who has never been certified can begin their scuba journey directly through the Avelo Diver Program—without first completing a traditional Open Water Diver course.

Avelo is not about replacing the joy of scuba. It is about giving divers another thoughtfully designed way to experience it.

Josh Wilson

Avelo Instructor / Tech • PADI Instructor

Josh Wilson is part of the Dive & Glide Scuba instructional team and is helping bring Avelo training to Michigan. Divers may already know Josh from his work as a PADI Instructor and from Dive & Glide Scuba’s training programs.

Josh’s role with Avelo is to help divers learn the system the right way—through proper instruction, clear skill development, and comfortable in-water practice. Whether someone is brand new to diving or already certified, Josh will be an important part of helping students understand how The Avelo System works and how to use it confidently.

You may also recognize Josh from Dive & Glide Scuba’s Scuba Boot Camp and other training opportunities. He is part of the growing team helping local divers explore new ways to learn and dive.
