Spain, France & Italy: Travel That Feeds the Soul
A few memories from my recent Mediterranean adventure — and a little explanation for where I disappeared to!
For those of you who wondered where I was when I was away from the shop recently, I traded my usual routine for a little European adventure. I had the opportunity to spend time traveling through Spain, France, and Italy, and it was a wonderful reminder that sometimes the best adventures happen simply because you decide to go somewhere new.
Each place had its own personality, scenery, food, history, traditions, and pace. There is something special about wandering through unfamiliar streets, seeing places you have only known from photographs, trying local foods, and simply watching everyday life unfold somewhere very different from home.
One of the best parts of travel isn’t a place at all.
It is the opportunity to meet and interact with people whose cultures, traditions, and everyday lives may be different from our own. Stepping outside what is familiar can be genuinely good for the soul. It encourages empathy, curiosity, and understanding, and it reminds us that there are many ways to live, celebrate, communicate, and see the world. Very often, it also reminds us just how much we all have in common.
That is probably one of the things I value most about traveling. You come home with photographs and memories, but you also come home with a little broader perspective. The world somehow feels both bigger and smaller at the same time.
Of course, I love a good dive trip, but travel does not always have to revolve around scuba. Sometimes it is good simply to explore, slow down, experience another culture, and enjoy being somewhere completely different. If Spain, France, Italy — or anywhere else — has been sitting on your “someday” list, consider this a little encouragement to go when you get the chance.
A Few Memories Along the Way
Travel can be fun, beautiful, educational, humbling, and deeply rewarding. Sometimes it really does feed the soul. And now that I’m back, it’s time to get dive in full throttle at the shop — and start thinking about the next diving adventure!
