Pumpkins, Prizes & Plenty of Laughs Underwater

A look back at Dive & Glide Scuba’s Underwater Pumpkin Carving Day.

Good food, good company, and plenty of pumpkin carving memories.
Good food, good company, and plenty of pumpkin carving memories.

Mother Nature definitely made us work for it this year! Our annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Day came with plenty of wind—enough that our tent nearly joined the dive—but Lucas, Sabrina, Greg, Jeff, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Jeremy, Chris, Tom, Tonya, Jacob, Josh, Andy, Keith, and Angie weren’t about to let the gusts spoil the fun. Naturally, as everything was wrapping up, the wind settled down and the sun decided to make an appearance. Better late than never!

The day was about much more than carving pumpkins. Divers caught up, shared stories, made plans for future dives, and practiced buoyancy skills in The Underwater Rings. The pumpkins gave everyone a chance to put their creativity and carving skills to the test.

We also had special moments to celebrate: Congratulations to Lucas and Sabrina on completing their NAUI Open Water Diver certifications! It was a wonderful day to welcome newly certified divers into the next chapter of their scuba adventures. Young Jeffrey joined us for his first pumkin carving event after recently completing his Junior Open Water Diver certification! He did a fine job on both his certification and pumpkin carving.

Our Avelo instructor, Josh, also “Avelo-upped” a few divers along the way. Between pumpkin carving, skills practice, and trying something different, there was plenty to keep our diving crew busy.

With several friendly carving competitions planned, we decided there was only one fitting outcome this year for all those who braved the blusterly Bear Lake winds: EVERYONE is a winner! Being part of the day meant so much to us that every participant is receiving a $50 Dive & Glide Scuba credit on account to use this holiday season as our way of saying thank you for showing up, sharing the fun, and making the day your own.

After the diving and carving, nobody went hungry. Andy prepared his famous pulled pork sandwiches, and our lunch spread included salads, a variety of chips, cookies, candy, pumpkin pie, and apple cider. A special thank-you to Jeff and Jeffrey for bringing veggie skewers to share! Good food and plenty of conversation made the surface interval every bit as enjoyable as the diving.

Despite the wind, it turned into exactly the kind of day we love: divers enjoying the water, cheering each other on, and spending time together. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make another Underwater Pumpkin Carving Day such a memorable one. This event is a favorite every year, and we’ve already put next year’s date on the calendar.
